Where a 5 x 8 works
- Small living rooms: Room & Board says the rug should be a bit longer than the sofa, with at least 8 to 12 inches on either side.
- Under a table for four (Wayfair).
Will it fit my room?
Room & Board suggests leaving about 18 inches of floor exposed around a rug. For a 5 x 8, that means a room at least 96 x 132 inches. In a smaller room, choose the next size down or use a front-legs-on layout. Before buying, mark the rug's outline on the floor with painter's tape and live with it for a day.
